Points from the podcast:

  • Allowance is a very small part of the recreational budget of the family
  • It is a useful tool to teach your kids responsibility
  • Just give kids some of the money you use on them and give them dominion over it, like your clothing budget.
  • Start at age 5 or 6.
  • This is a teaching instrument. Help them learn to save.
  • It is not paying kids for work around the house. Everyone helps around the house.

You can hear Dr Leman’s Role Playing about Allowances in this episode.
