I knew something was up around the Leman household…but I didn’t know what was up. Later I find out that Mrs. Uppington was being very sneaky and planning a surprise party! My first clue was when I woke up and my daughter Hannah and her husband Josh were on the patio in the morning drinking coffee — I was shocked! And I was hoping the other kids weren’t far behind…
And they weren’t! Kevin and Lauren flew in from California the next day along with other friends and family! The party was so great it made me want to be 70 all over again (and I thought that was impossible!) The best part was listening to all my kids and grandchildren talk about our relationship and what counted most in life to them.
To top it off my sweet wife bought me a 1950 Deluxe Ford – Little did she know that was my FIRST car. I paid 200 dollars for it. I think she paid a little more… She completely surprised me.
It was one of the those benchmarks in life that you don’t forget! Everyday since I keep thinking about how wonderful that evening was. How much love was in the that room.
It is a privilege to be a Dad and a husband, those are two things I certainly cut out to be!

My husband, and our children’s father, passed away from an acute response to cancer on July 22, 2013- 8 weeks ago today. It has been tough on all of us- considering that ALL of us are “powerful”! As such, we are tough, and sometimes it’s hard to remember to be tender with each other…
My hope & prayer is that your newest book, whether or not I’m actually one of 3 winners, will give me some insight into my newest role- as mother AND father… and that, with my Dan’s guidance and direction, through the Spirit, our children will grow up to be just as exemplary as he is!

I shared on my Facebook status. I would really love a copy of your book! I have three powerful children (two of them are just louder about it than the other). Parenting has been very challenging for me, being an only child, and a well behaved one at that. I certainly didn’t learn a lot of parenting skills from watching my parents, because they could discipline me with a look! I think it has been my people pleasing ways that has made me permissive a lot of the time, and my “super-perfectionist” only child ways that has made me devour parenting book after parenting book, including many of yours, but being a perfectionist also makes me constantly question my decisions when it comes to the kids. Thank you so much for sharing your wisdom with us through your books. I have learned a lot! And I still have so much to learn. We’re getting close to the teenage years! Eek! Would you be willing to send one to me in Canada? Pretty please???
