How do I keep my kids out of trouble and productive?

I have heard from fellow parents, how they dread summer, because they have no idea what to do with their kids and there is more problems.

How do you keep kids age 5-10 busy and out of trouble during the summer? (What do you recommend for teens during the summer?)

Do you ever get worried about summertime with your kids? How do you keep your kids busy?

Dr. Leman’s Answer

Summer is a great time to get in touch with your kids again! With the school year being pretty scheduled, it is nice to use this time to reconnect.
If you have the luxury of having one parent home, that is wonderful!

Be creative about what you do with your kids. It doesn’t have to cost much, if anything.

  • Give them cardboard boxes to build with
  • Take them to the park
  • Have friends over and serve tomato soup and grilled cheese sandwiches
  • Send them to VBS
  • If you don’t have a parent at home during the day, you may try finding a co-op of other families in the same situation. Take turns watching each others’ kids for free! This gives the kids someone to play with.

Enjoy your time with your kids during the summer, don’t make it too structured, and let them have some creative play time.
